With its non-clinical facilities as well as its research and teaching area corresponding to the organisational units of the University Hospital, it is one of the largest medical training and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg.

The  Institute of Vegetative und Clinical Physiology led by Professor Jan Tchorz, offers a dynamic and diverse research environment with high-impact publications (including Nature Genetics, Cell Stem Cell, Nature Cell Biology) and international collaborations in academia and industry. Our interdisciplinary team uses state-of-the-art technologies to investigate cellular identity, metabolic function, regeneration, and tumorigenesis in major liver and other organ diseases, aiming to develop new therapeutic approaches. As a central contributor to preclinical teaching at the Faculty of Medicine, we also offer the opportunity to help shape physiology education and mentor students.
